President's CornerIt's a bitter sweet moment as I write this, our last correspondence from the Small Animal Advocates. I have prayed (for the last few years) for the Lord to provide a way for me to retire after 31 years with SAA. He showed me that our area needed help for the animals and has led ever since. As long as he gave me strength and there was a need for us, I continued. Praise the Lord, we have an answer. In 2011, a local group began helping pet owners financially and when approached, they agreed to continue our work for us. After December 31, 2014, Buddy of Mine will be the ones to contact. You can call them at 608-206-1178 or by email at larryeifert@sbcglobal.net. They are also on Facebook. We will continue our work until Dec. 31. We had a wonderful last official meeting with most of our members present. We had a 3 generation group that have been very active for many years and a charter member in attendance. There was some good reminiscing - laughs and tender moments included. We missed our long time acting garage sale expert, Edie White, who passed away this year. She had helped fold, label and stamp our spring newsletter - participating to the end. We want to thanks her friends and family for the large donation in her name. We remember her and my mom as mainstays in garage sale preparation - they worked so hard into their 80's. We have been blessed many times over the years by all the volunteers that made us a success at helping the animals. Some were totally behind the scenes like the website, facebook, printing of the newsletter, advertising our events, discounts and donating to fundraisers. Those dear people you never see, along with those who send monetary encouragement. Our group is more than an organization, it is like a family. We even lie each other so much we socialize and hope to have a reunion next October.
Final meeting of SAA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are still "in business" until the end of the year so have a few last pictures and stories to share. Be sure to also check on the photo page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is B.K. - for bad kitty - who received a free spay. She had arrived at Tami's in bad shape. She was hungry and dehydrated, obviously a stray. Her new owner has bad health and is home bound so she was truly a blessing. We were so happy to help. This message came with the pictures. "She's a handful but I love her. I can't imagine life without her." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This dear lady was a blessed with a surprise of bundles of fur. We were able to help here. This note accompanied the pictures. "Here are some more pictures I thought you might enjoy - and yes, we found all the kitties lovable forever homes. Thanks so much for your help and kindness."
I will truly miss receiving the notes and pictures and the pleasure that comes from being able to help. I can still refer to Buddy of Mine or the sources of help from my phone, as long as the Lord wills. It's hard to know what to say for a last message other than a huge thank you to: first of all to the Lord and than to all the great volunteers over the years. I enjoy thinking back and filling my mind and heart with memories. We have a large album of pictures and articles for anyone who would like to see it. I'll end with this Jewish proverb. "You never soar so high as when you stoop down to help a child or an animal."
Fondly, |
